One month down!

Hola Familia Oltra Vez!

Its been a month now since i have been at the MTC! Time flies, and all the days are mixed together. Espanol is coming along good. it seems like ive learned so much but there is so much that i dont know. The conjagations are really hard, but it seems convienant in the end. its pretty much they dont ever use "you, he, she, they, we, i" and that kinda stuff. im starting to get the first three of 14 but others have 7 down. its all cool. my vocab outhustles theirs i just say stuff wrong like when i talk about jose smith i say he talk with god and god told him none of the churches were true. so Joseph traslating the book of mormon. you get the jist of it and soon enough i will be able to say it right.

The average missionary at the MTC gets to hear .9 of an apostale. We heard Elder Holland the first week and on tuesday we heard Elder Dallin H Oaks. He has a cool background as to how he became an apostale. He's been a member of the 12 since '84. He talked about how much we need the spirit. There is a verse in D&C 85:17ish that says if ye have not the spirit, DONT teach. Thats how important it is to pray and have a good friendship with all around us.

There is really not much to write about so sorry. Every week we do a service assignment and the people tell us about the outside world. I heard byu mad the biggest comeback in ncaa history then lost to marquette. that a plus. And the Jazz finally got it together beating okc and la in la. 8th now in the w.

Kylie sent pictures of the baby and he is sweet. El eres un capo de molleta. it will be cool to see him in two year as he tries to learn a language as i. (Stud Muffin)

Hmmm. so in gym yesterday i hit 3 game winning shots and 4 3's in a row the last game. all over the most dominate player in our zone. mamba-ish.

Tambien! ive been reading the story of ammon and king lamoni in my libro de mormon. its alma capitulo 17-21ish. its cool beans. i can read 8 or nine versus in a row its nice. although most of the time i read a verse and have no idea whats going on. but the story is cool he teaches king lamoni like how preach my gospel manuel teaches. And with his fe so many people are baptized. also another cool jiffy in that passage is that the queen has a vision after she falls down in belief about jesus and says he will be born of a woman and will be the redeemer of us. This story is 100 years before Jesucristo was born.

anyways peace be unto you and may you have "Gozo en su Alma Hoy!"

Amor,
Elder Toomey!

Crazy week 4

A lot of fun stuff happened this week in the Provo MTC.

On thursday in Jimnasio i was playing volleyball and i jumped up to block the ball. The other missionary on my team also jumped up with me and in result we blocked the ball and got the point, even though we dont keep score... meanwhile i landed on his foot with both of my feet and broke his toe. he had to leave the mtc and go to insticare in orem. his companion said that was only like 3 blocks from his house... worry not the doctor said he didnt break it. just smashed really hard. he used crutches for a day and hes back to normal now. We also play basketball in gym alot. Its fun there are some dudes that played for their highschool but i can compete with them. Last week i hit three game winning shots in a row. its nice to get away from studing the gospel and the language...

Ive been learning spanish like a mad man. I only took one semester of spanish compared to 4 other people that took 3/4 years but i (think) am better than them. In 17 days here i can say 95% of anything i want. I have the first three lessons pretty much down. The two practice investigators we hare were difficult but we earned their trust and are really amigable to them so it all worked out. theyll commit to baptisim soon.

We had another really good talk this wee about Working Hard, Loving Your Investigator and Giving 110%. We've been told that a billion times here so i kinda zoned out during the devotional (my culpa) but after we had a district meeting and the 1st counciler in our zone talked to us. The thing i got most out of the meeting was what his wife said "Thats gonna be my Dad!" i want to have cocky kids when i get married. I hope they brag to jesus and the others in heaven before comming here on how lucky they are to have me as their dad. It motivates me to keep working hard when i get overwhelmed and want to sit in the "comoto sillas" or couches...

Every week we look forward to Wednesday. A the new missionaries and B its ice cream day! We watch through the windows as they come in flocks hugging their families for the last time and guessing if they'll look back. Then you get to say "Bienvidedos" to them and freek them out because they have no idea whats going on. At night everyone runs into their room and hugs them which is inconvienant because they can not get unpacked due to the fact that so many people are trying to talk to them. As well as the new missionaries its Dia De Helado!!!!! We get icecream from byu creamery and its all you can eat so i ate ten bowls of icecream haha. it was fun and everyone freaked out but thats my family we eat a gallon a day :).

Barely been here, yet i know so much.

Howdy Amigos!

So i've been here two weeks now. its finally hitting me that this isnt just another summer camp; its a two year experience. We "baptized" our first golden investigator so now we get two at once. the first one dozes off during our message but the other (ada) seems to trust us alot. We connect with her and her kids a lot. I can pretty much work my way around teaching all the lessons in spanish but i dont understand everything they say in response. We learn so much everyday but somehow i keep it in my mind. Most night i cant sleep for a few minutes due to the fact that i have spanish running through my mind, although i havent dreamed yet so im not there yet.

Our zone president says we are one of the best districts in a while. we get room and classroom checks every week and we always get an A+ grade. we do everything together. so many good times ive had with these new guys. Does anyone know Cade Wilkes? he lives in alpine. haha he added me on facebook and i checked him out but didnt think i knew him so i just let it be. now were close buds.

not sure what to write about life isnt to exciting. ummm. so all my changos at jcws know how i laugh "ja ja ja" and so this kid was like, (i mean elder) was like you really think that is how they are going to laugh like when you get down to Argentina?

also for my changos there is an elder named Talon Wetten from the middle of no where New Mexico that is Jables long lost brother. he is the dp so thats weird to think about but he is really nice and has cool stories.

Ryan emailed me the pictures of his baby. (i tried to email one to fb/tw) he is so cute. it made me smile. maybe i can print one off.

I posted a scripture on my fb that is Job 22:12 or something about the Resurrection but i dont know the exact verse so can someone hit me up with that. also mom could you email me my talk?

much love DJ

-remember that i can NOT read my @mentions/responces/comments vosotros post so speak directly to me. :)

Pday #2 been here 8 days!

Hola Amigos!

1. i found out ryan had his baby three days after he actually did. (they dont do postal on sunday)

2. Jeremy Evans won the dunk contest. thats cool.

3. back to real life.

We are all progressing rapidly here at the mtc. although it is hard because the elders who had no prior spanish background are flustaraded because it is hard to keep up. our teacher (who is only with us 2/3 hours a day) speak 98% spanish. We have a practice investigator that we teach the lessons to. The first two lesson we taught 66% by reading pmg and our notes and 33% by our own spanish. then the teacher showed us a paragraph in pmg that said you have to teach by the spirit no by memorized citation. so yesterday we taught carlos about the plan of salvation using only our book of mormon and our bible. IN SPANISH. it was tough. i had a couple scriptures bookmarked but i forgot to underline a verse so i had to try to expalin that his dad had the oppertunity to learn about the gospel in heaven and could be baptised so that they could live together in heaven.
-
When teaching the plan i could tell him the bottom is for people who sin. the middle for those who dont sin but dont have the gospel of jesus crist. and the top is for those who get remission of their sins and accept the word of christ. but it was hard for him to understand so i related it to food. i said when your hungry you will be happy to eat lettuce. that is the bottom kingdom. next was french fries. thats good food but there is something better. The celestial kingdom was related to a choclate muffin (forgot doughnut) and everyone want chocolate; of the four companionships in our distrect if feel we have dont the best in our discussions.

On tuesday we had our first MTC devotional. Elder Jeffery R. Holland spoke to us. He alwasys has a really powerful message for us and knows that the church is true. he talked about how we (missionaries) are the most prayed for people in the WORLD! and that we need to do everything we ask our investigors to do. dont be happy when your mission is over and you can go back to "real life" continue to be an example for the deacons. we want them to say i wanna be like him.

my time is up ont he computer so i have to end.

Much love to all.
